We are so excited for our new collaboration with potter and designer, Jonathan Adler! His zest for life is contagious and apparent through his designs. Below is a short interview so you can learn a bit more about him and what inspired our new fragrances, particularly Wilderness and Citrus Breeze.

YOUR LOCATION:
New York, NY and Shelter Island, NY
YOUR HEART'S HOME:
Our house at the beach on Shelter Island is where I’m happiest. We built our dream house from scratch and filled it with the people and things we love the most. It smells like the water and the grass and the sun.
YOUR STORY:
I first touched clay at summer camp when I was 13. I’m not a spiritual person, but I felt a connection. I went to Brown University but spent all my time at RISD taking pottery classes. My pottery teacher told me I had no talent and that I should become a lawyer. It was the best advice I never took.
After college I moved to New York, taught pottery classes in exchange for studio time, and Barneys bought my first collection. I opened my first store in 1998 and my career has been an unbridled creative odyssey ever since. I wouldn’t change a single moment. Except maybe when my kiln burnt the office down; that wasn’t so fun.
INSPIRATION:
Inspiration is an elusive sprite that visits when it wants to visit. I just keep my eyes and mind wide open.
SMELLS IN YOUR LIFE:
The smell of tomato leaves reminds me of gardening with my grandfather. I like sparkly, citrus, clean scents that are crisp. They take me to Palm Beach, they take me to Capri – basically they take me wherever it’s sunny and there’s water and a paddleboard for me to jump on.
YOUR HOME INTERIOR ROUTINE:
We have scented candles scattered everywhere. They add a twinkle of light at night and when you’re as old as I am you need diffused light, trust me. Plus they’re my go-to gifts. No one has ever said no to a glamorous candle.
YOU AND MAISON BERGER:
I love the Imperial Green Tea fragrance from the Muse products in our Jonathan Adler x Maison Berger collaboration. It just smells right.
YOUR MOST VIVID OLFACTIVE MEMORY:
Taking care of my grandfather’s tomato plants with him. I wish I had him back, but I’m glad I have those memories.
YOUR LIFE PHILOSOPHY:
I just want to make life-enhancing stuff. My company’s motto is, “If your heirs won’t fight over it, we won’t make it.”
