CATALYTIC TECHNOLOGY, A TRADITION SINCE 1898
1) When our alcohol-based fragrance is poured into the Lampe Berger, the solution is absorbed by the wick into the catalytic stone.
2) After the initial lighting, the heat of the stone breaks down malodorous molecules, neutralizing them.
3) As the stone continues to burn the solution, fueling the catalytic process, Maison Berger fragrance is diffused. *Note that one can always use our Air Pur So Neutral solution to eliminate odors without diffusing fragrance.
Before you begin, be sure to have these 4 essential lamp accessories on hand! For optimal lamp use and care, replace your wick once a year or every 200 uses.
are enough to set up your Lamp Ritual
1. Fill your Lampe Berger 2/3 full with fragrance using the funnel.
2. Insert the burner in the Lampe Berger, cover with the snuffer cap, and wait 20 minutes.
3. Light the burner and wait 2 minutes.
4. Blow out the flame.
5. Place the diffuser top on the lamp and let it perfume your space.
6. Remove the diffuser top and replace the snuffer cap to end diffusion.
We advise filling the lamp 2/3 of the way.
Let the flame go for two to three minutes. This ensures that the burner reaches the temperature required to then catalyze. Do not leave for much longer or the ceramic top will burn.
We recommend a maximum duration of 30-45 minutes per use. This is ample to scent most rooms.
We recommend running your wick through a “cleaning” cycle by filling and diffusing the lamp with our So Neutral solution. After the diffusion cycle is complete, air out the burner prior to switching to the next scent.
Do not "mix" perfumes (except So Neutral, which mixes with all home perfumes).
Yes! Mix your fragrance with Air Pur So Neutral to dilute the strength of scent.
No. These products have a different composition that does not allow them to work in the lamp. Using these products in your lamp can damage the wick. Always use only Maison Berger Paris-branded catalytic lamp refills.
You can stop diffusion any time by covering the burner with the snuffer cap. Replacing the snuffer cap on the burner stops the catalytic diffusion process by blocking oxygen to the burner and allowing it to cool.
Keep the lamp sealed when not in use. Leaving the burner uncovered when you are not using your lamp will result in the evaporation of fragrance in your lamp.
We do not recommend the use of Lampe Berger in the presence of sensitive people such as infants (0 to 3 years old), pregnant women, and immune-compromised or convalescent people. The alcohol present in our home fragrances can bother these people and cause headaches.
Our home fragrances are composed of cosmetic-grade alcohol (isopropyl), water, as well as natural and synthetic fragrances (in order to avoid the risk of allergy). All our perfumes are tested through extremely rigorous quality protocols, and we ensure the quality of the raw materials used. Our perfumes are created in Grasse and Switzerland, a tribute to tradition and European know-how.
Our products are not tested on animals and contain no materials of animal origin. They may be used around adult animals as long as they are out of reach. As an exception, we advise against using the Lampe Berger in the presence of baby animals, fish in aquariums, and birds.
We recommend covering your burner with the snuffer cap during the initial soaking process and whenever the lamp is not in use. Be mindful of keeping the lamp near heat sources or in direct sunlight, as any heat sources may also expedite fragrance evaporation.
We recommend using the Air Pur So Neutral solution in the lamp from time to time to clean the wick and the lamp interior. This refill is used like the other refills and needs to diffuse for only 20-30 minutes. Caution: never clean the burner with water or other cleaning agents. We recommend changing the burner approximately once a year (this is an average based on 200 uses).
To extend the life of your lamp, we recommend cleaning the lamp exterior only with a microfiber cloth. Use of sponges or cleaning products may deteriorate the lamp’s lacquer coating. We also highly recommend using a funnel with your lamp to prevent spills, as the alcohol content can also damage the lamp’s exterior.
If you do not plan to use your lamp for several weeks, it is best not to leave the burner inserted in the lamp. Remove the burner from the lamp, let it air dry, and store it in a dry place until next use. Keep the lamp empty of fragrance and cover with the snuffer cap. This prevents the metal parts from oxidizing through contact with perfume.
Since the 1900s, Maison Berger has been a household name in France. Initially, the Berger lamp was created to clean hospital air and eliminate germs through the catalytic process. Over the years, the option to diffuse perfume was added. The availability of scent made the catalytic lamp even more popular for household use.
In the past century, the lamp’s look has evolved, reflecting changing fashions and collaborations with prominent designers of the time. Design is still a core feature of our brand; contemporary designers are continuously sought out for new collections.
Nevertheless, the goals of the Lampe Berger remain the same – to remove bad odors in your space, spread joy through the power of perfumery, and embellish your interior.
